Freeride Chile: Base Camp Farellones
Those whom you meet in the mountains are those in which you will find true friendship. After a solo 10k ski-hike along a creek and into the southern Patagonian Andes, I met 5 lovely souls at Refugio Frey: a remote hut and world class alpine climbing destination. This had been my home for the last 30 days and I was thrilled to show off the terrain and favorite lines to the freeriders from Spain, Chile, and North America. Quickly they changed the course of my trip and invited me to Chile to compete in Avalanche En El Volcan: a timed competition down Volcan Villarrica that also included a hike up to the summit. Three days later, I found myself on a overnight bus to Santiago, Chile where I was greeted by my friends once again and driven up the 40 switchbacks to Base Camp in Farellones, Chile. My reality became the Andes Mountains: chillin in Chile above 14,000 feet. Go ski Chile and stay at Base Camp in Farellones. Never before, outside of my immediate family, had I even been shown such hospitality and kindness. Thank you Base Camp. Vive Chile!
